Run the consortium random program
Last Updated: 09/24/2026
When your members' random testing runs through your consortium, you manage the random pools and selections in the TPA app; the member employers do not change the random setup themselves. The pools, selections, and statistics work the same way as the Med-Stop Random Selection Service described in Random testing.
The Random menu
- Random Service Status: a summary of the random service.
- Random Pools: your pools. Open a pool to see its General, Members, Selections, and Status tabs, including employees excluded from selection and employees not in the pool.
- Random Selections: every selection and its status. Open a selection to see its General and Status tabs.
Steps: follow up a selection
- Choose Random > Random Service Status or Random > Random Selections and find the open selection.
- Create a New Test Request for the selected employee so the employee can go for the test.
- Check the selection again after the test. A selection that cannot be completed needs its final status and reason recorded. See Change a random selection status.
Pools and member settings
- A New Random Pool option is available from the Random pages for users with company management access.
- Each member's record has a Random tab for its random service, and each employee record has a Random tab for that employee's random settings.
- Random service management requires extended (Consortium Manager) access.
Rules to keep in mind
DOT random testing must use a scientifically valid selection method, give every covered employee an equal chance each time, and meet the DOT agency's minimum annual rates. See DOT random testing requirements and What are the DOT random testing rates?.
